When you open your eyes to see them. Wonder: a feeling of surprise mingled with admiration, caused by something unexpected or familiar. This has been an unprecedented year for me. It was my first year to work outside the home full-time. The first year as a CEO of a non-profit I helped start. The first year as the manager of its resale store. This reflection has me taking advice I have shared in order to evolve. I am resting after tripping. Insert half smiley face because m
The narrative for living in this blog is learn when to hit the reset button. I have a lot to catch up on with a busy store this holiday season. Good for sales. Bad for timing. Well not really. An evolutionary life turned evolutionary business. The Evolving Mother is becoming a reality. As I wrote in my initial writing over a year ago, It Takes A Vision, I am sharing what has transpired since then. My kids are seeing mom in a new light. They know me to be hard working and persistent but they are seeing adult-ing is harder than they envisioned. I am doing more of what I want to do. After all, my kids are adults now. Laugh with me parents. Journaling is still an ac
At what point do you start taking care of yourself and what does that look and feel like? I don’t often start my writing with a question, but I need to get to the point. These musings are intended to help you reflect on your life as I reflect on mine. When you reflect, you can restore your soul. (Put a slice of orange into your glass now. I did.) I have cared for others for many years. My calendar, or at least my mind, gets filled with stuff. Ideas, tasks, and other minuti
I dubbed myself The Evolving Mother because I want to continually be learning. There are many reasons why. The one for this writing is, as we learn we are smarter and make better decisions. I read my v.1 of this blog and cringe, just a little, at some of my word choices and phrases. The cringe comes with a huge pat on the back too. Because I wrote it and PUBLISHED IT! YAY ME! I could keep all versions of my writings in a file or I can choose to evolve. It has been so wor
What determines the successful are the plans they have for their lives. Wise words from J.D. Vance that I say to myself often. I used to think that a prestigious degree and a six figure income would make me successful. Sure there would be money in the bank and a diploma on the wall. Is that what success is? You may have figured out sooner than I did at my age that these papers, money and diploma, are just that-paper. It is what you do with them that makes the difference. I
No. It does not smell better, AND you still have to eat your vegetables! I can tell you where you can get some though if you live a gluten free life. This product is not yet readily available like many gluten free products. I had the opportunity to try some in San Diego. Unfortunately, the pump to purchase this fuel was not electronic! I stood at this kiosk dumbfounded. What century am I in? I thought for a second about the movie Back to the Future. 🚗 If gluten free is good
After all it is fall ya’ll! So, does an apple a day really keep the doctor away? Only if you eat them. I like apples as much as I like going to the doctor. It has taken me a long time to learn there is more than one kind of doctor. I mean apple. Fuji is my favorite kind of apple, but I still do not eat one a day. Now a banana, that is a daily morning ritual no one in my family wants to see broken. And, yes, it says a lot about my monkey-like behavior. I am full of ener
It’s important for me to feel productive. In order for that to happen, I must know my boundaries. There is a trick to this. It’s knowing your personality. Say WHAAAT!
As organized as I am, there are days that I do not get much done. While that might be ok a couple days of the week, I have commitments that I want to honor-to myself and others. I get frustrated on work days when I do not accomplish what is on my calendar. Sound familiar?
On days where there is so much
The title is not an oxymoron. It is possible to declutter AND save money! With knowledge and motivation, you can save money by decluttering and organizing your home. Did you know, 1 out of 10 Americans rent a storage unit because they have so much stuff? And, did you know, there are 5 times more storage units then Starbucks cafes!! Just think how many more Starbucks coffees you can have if you did not have that storage unit. Now there’s a motivational thought for you. Thi
Although the expansion of the elastic on my pants is not what I intended. The wine and cheese was very good! The focus of my blogs is about growing indeed; it is mainly passionate growth both personally and for our environment. I want to inspire more passion in people and less waste in landfills. So my intent is to inspire you to live an evolutionary life while caring for yourself and the environment you live in. Recently, I was provoked by the thought of living my life on
How many times do we look at a project and get overwhelmed? Some days it’s hard to even break it down into manageable pieces. I faced this as I played my Sudoku puzzle just now. OK! So I took a break from my project. I was overwhelmed. This puzzle lost its appeal quickly because I couldn’t focus from thinking too hard. Then I finally realized answers became clear when I didn’t think about anything else and used the process of elimination. Voila! Done. Finished. Complete. The
Do you aspire to achieve your dreams, or dream to achieve what you aspire? The answer depends on how you were raised. The result is determined by your current mindset. The main question seems to be whether you will achieve what you set your mind to. While I can sing the song from Disney about dreams really do come true, the reality was never imbedded. It’s no wonder why I played tennis. I was a natural. I lived a tennis game life. One day I was encouraged to make good grades.
I had this epiphany one day when I was so frustrated with myself on not accomplishing more work. More specifically not tackling what I knew I had to do. Being articulate is not a strength of mine but there are two words that are pretty straight forward in the English language. Perfectionism and Procrastination. If you are a person that thinks in clear terms, then you identify with either side of the spectrum these two words have as bookends. I urge you to rethink the number o
Bees are one of the best examples of team building. The product, no wait, products, they produce and influence taste wonderful, look beautiful, and create fulfillment. Friends and teams are just as beneficial. The one ingredient these all need to thrive is water. Boring eh. Nevertheless, true. Water is an important commodity for them all to be successful. For bees to produce that yummy liquid gold. Teams to produce the gold for the pocketbook. Friends to enjoy the golden or r
It seems to reason, there IS exercise involved in muscles and brain activity. When you’re happy you’re healthier. Consider bees and why there is a saying ‘busy as a bee’. They love making honey. Do you love making money? If not, take the time to evaluate how you work and whether you are working in the field you enjoy. No, we can’t all tell our boss take this job and shove it. I ain’t working here no more. However, you can take control of your emotions and some of your work e
Regarding PLASTIC BAGS! We can’t live with them yet can’t live without them. Or can we? Let’s take a look. Compostable OR Biodegradable is the question of the day. The Biodegradable Products Institute certifies plastic bags that have gone through a lot of testing so they can actually biodegrade. Look for the BPI logo on packaging. Note, this means something will break down and become part of the soil. It will take a few years, some take a thousand, others take only seven. No
The ever Evolving Mother is sharing the scavenger hunt STORY she put together for children of all ages. The intent is to share inspiration for you to enjoy your Easter tradition this year. The backyard Easter egg hunt may be the most untweaked tradition during the pandemic as it typically is in the backyard with your siblings or parents. And like Christmas, the hunt happens before breakfast, right! This year will be slightly different but in a way you might not expect. I for one am hiding real boiled eggs. YEP! My baby ‘grand’ will be so excited for the hunt, he will then want to keep this tradition going, even though it is a bit of a tweak. I do not plan to c
It certainly seems like it’s the survival of the fittest out there. No matter where you are in the world or what you do, living is challenging right now. Learning from athletes or corporate presidents, the trick is balancing disappointments, fears, and hopes….oh my! Whether you are a coach, president, or parent, being fit has an unusual definition right now, or at least in my family it does. Our psychological well-being is better with chip and dip, chocolate, and specialty
